History

How TESS Began

Diseases of the endocrine glands — the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands, and neuroendocrine tumors (NET) of the pancreas and gastrointestinal tract — are a group of conditions in which surgery by an expert surgeon remains the mainstay of treatment, from toxic and non-toxic goiter to thyroid tumors and cancer, hyperparathyroidism and adrenal tumors.

To unite surgeons and physicians interested in the surgical care of endocrine patients, surgeons from leading institutions across the country founded the Thai Endocrine Surgeons Society (TESS) on 11 July 2014, launching it officially at the 39th Congress of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand.

The Association of General Surgeons of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King subsequently endorsed the Society and placed it under the Association's oversight (letter no. SoKhoTho 029/2557, dated 7 August 2014), to jointly advance academic activity for the benefit of members and Thai surgery.

From its founding, a key mission was to host the Pre-Congress Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Workshop at the 46th World Congress of Surgery (2015) in Bangkok, together with the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES), underscoring Thailand's role on the world stage of endocrine surgery.

Emblem

Meaning of the Emblem

Thai Endocrine Surgeons Society emblem
  1. Two circles represent the endocrine glands, which are often bilateral — the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.
  2. Three white strokes in the navy circle represent three scalpel blades used in endocrine surgery for the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Arranged horizontally, they resemble the letter E — the first letter of Endocrine.
  3. The lettering in the teal circle is the Society's English name — Thai Endocrine Surgeons Society.
